The Audrey Christmas Tree
Well, the holiday season is upon us. We had a rogue evergreen tree of unknown species overgrowing a sidewalk, so we chopped it down and brought it into the house to use as a Christmas tree. It seems a lot bigger in the house than it was in the yard, it smells like pencil shavings, and the shape reminds me of Audrey the carnivorous plant in Little Shop of Horrors. Turns out it is an Eastern red cedar, completely wild and untrimmed, faintly scary, and I just love it. (Pencils are indeed made from red cedar.) The branches are far apart from one another, so we can load up 40+ years of ornaments without crowding. Apologies for the mess in the background and the suboptimal photography. The branches at right extend off the page.
